About Us

Harvey Hughes Limited came into existence on the 1st August 2008 when it acquired the full share holding of Berry’s ABD, a company which had been in existence since 1st August 2005.  However, the founding business had commenced on the 1st February 1981 in the name of H.C. Hughes.

Over a period of time this business changed its name from Howard Hughes & Company Ltd to Agricultural Business Developments which was finally shortened to ABD.  (A little more easily given over the telephone to the customer base.)

The founding partners have continued to be involved from the commencement in 1981 until the present day.  Services provided by Harvey Hughes Limited have progressed from their simple early base in 1981 to their present broad spectrum of services.

One person in 1981 having now grown into a company of six Farming Consultants together with seven Farm Secretaries and one Office Manager.  A real success story!

Offices originally based in a converted farm building at Dunham Massey having now moved to the state of the art offices outside Northwich, a location more closely associated with the customer base. A new additional office covering/servicing Cumbria having been added in 2012, an area which is now being serviced by this progressive company.

Our presence in Cumbria continues to grow, as we work with farmers on an increasingly diverse portfolio of projects.

We have close relationships with banks, accountants and other professionals which has allowed us to plan and execute on farm investment projects; for both agricultural and diversification enterprises.

Farming in some areas of Cumbria can be extremely difficult, and profitability in hill areas is notoriously challenging. Our aim is to guide a business to sustained profitability through maximising it’s resources and capitalising on stewardship schemes that are available in these areas. This challenge requires stringent business management, and we are heavily involved in business planning to farms across the county.

With areas such as the Lake District and the Howgills, tourism is an often untapped income stream. Through our expertise in diversification and LEADER grants, we have helped a number of businesses secure additional income through projects such as holiday cottages, camping sites and farm shops.
